SAUDI LABOR IN TRANSITION – TIMELINE

  • 1932 King Abd al-Aziz creates the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. (SUSRIS)

  • 1938 Oil is first produced in commercial quantities. (SUSRIS)

  • 1945 Aramco, the first major employer in Saudi Arabia, experienced its first workers strike due to low wages, poor housing, racial discrimination, and inadequate training.
