Dr. Zuhair Allawi
President, Dow Saudi Arabia
Dr. Zuhair Allawi is Vice President of Dow Saudi Arabia. In this newly created role, he is responsible for establishing the Dow presence in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and is the focal point for government and community relationships, seeking opportunities for new business ventures, and interfacing as appropriate with Dow’s joint ventures in the Kingdom.
Allawi also supports key partnerships and technical projects in Saudi Arabia, such as those at the Dow Middle East and Africa R&D Center at King Abdullah’s University of Science and Technology.
Allawi joined Dow Netherlands in Terneuzen in 1981 as a trainee in the Middle East and Africa (MEAF) Export department. In 1982, he moved to Horgen, Switzerland, as a Technical Service & Development Engineer in the fabricated products department.
He went on to hold various regional technical, sales, and commercial management assignments in the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia, where he focused on developing Dow’s business with the Company’s Styrofoam™ joint venture in the Kingdom.
In 1994, he returned to Horgen as the MEAF Regional Commercial Manager for polyethylene, polystyrene, and engineering plastics, and later added responsibility for East Europe and Greece. He relocated to Cairo, Egypt in 1998 to lead the Middle East Polyurethanes System House as General Manager.
In 2004, Allawi became Sales Director, thermosets, polyurethane systems, and epoxy for MEAF and India and moved to Dubai, UAE. He was named Commercial Director for basic and performance chemicals for these regions in 2006. Before his current role, Allawi was Senior Commercial Director in the Performance Materials Division across the Middle East & Africa. He assumed his present role in 2011 and moved to Al Khobar, in Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province.
Allawi earned a PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Wales, Swansea, UK.
