President of SunEdison Advanced Solutions
Dr. Shihab Kuran, Ph.D has been President of SunEdison Advanced Solutions at MEMC Electronic Materials Inc., since February 27, 2013. Dr. Kuran is responsible for energy solutions and markets that incorporate advanced grid management products and technologies at MEMC Electronic Materials.
Dr. Kuran founded Petra Solar, Inc., and served as its President & Chief Executive Officer. Dr. Kuran served as Vice President, Development for Analog Products Group (APG), a division of Fairchild Semiconductor International Inc., since June 15, 2005. He was responsible for setting the direction and development of new power products and managing Fairchild ‘s strategic direction for highly integrated devices for APG. He served as Senior Vice President, Strategic Marketing of Sipex Corporation, where he was responsible for the strategy and restructure of Sipex ‘s focus on power management. Dr. Kuran began his career as a design engineer in advanced circuit design with ANADIGICS, Inc., and advanced into management roles in engineering, design technology, advanced development and business development. His interest in international water problems led to his innovative work in the field of capacitive deionization in 1990. He has over fifteen years of international semiconductor experience.
He has been featured and published in more than thirty-five publications. He has several patent applications and more than 20 publications. He designed and developed a family of high speed power management products.
He served as Vice Chairman and Director of ENPAR Technologies Inc., since February 16, 2006. He serves as a Board Member of the New Jersey Technology Council and on the Advisory Board at The Rothman Institute of Entrepreneurship at Fairleigh Dickinson University, as well as the External Advisory Board for Rutgers Innovation Park.
He also serves on the Advisory Boards of the Edison Innovation Foundation and the Charles Edison Fund. He served as Director of Petra Solar, Inc.
His awards and acknowledgements, Dr. Kuran was recognized by Greentech Media as one of the “100 people you must know in Smart Grid in 2012;” by Ernst & Young as the N.J. Green Tech Entrepreneur of the Year in 2010, and by Fortnightly Magazine as a “top guru” in the solar industry in 2010. He is an inventor and has published over 40 papers.
Dr. Kuran holds a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the City University of New York and an Executive Management degree from Harvard Business School.
