Saudi Arabia Inflation Report – August 2012 – Jadwa

Year-on-year inflation eased again in August, slipping to 3.8 percent from 4 percent in July, the first time since October 2009. Lower food and rental inflation caused most of the fall, yet both remained the most contributor adding 2.8 percentage point to the rise in the overall inflation index. Our measure of core inflation slightly increased to 2.2 percent in August compared to 2.1 percent in July.

Over the course of its more than 30 years existence, the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) has sought to balance regional and global power of the Gulf states, yet still carries misconceived notions as to its purpose, its true collaborating principles, and its overall objectives in the Gulf. Dr. John Duke Anthony, founding President and CEO of the National Council on U.S.-Arab Relations, and preeminent Gulf specialist, contributed an essay to the Emirates Center for Strategic Studies and Research, 16th Annual Conference on “Global Strategic Developments: A Futuristic Vision.” His contribution entitled, “The Future Significance of the Gulf Cooperation Council,” not only provided in-depth analysis on the historic importance of the GCC countries, but also explores the geopolitical strategies needed for the Council’s successful future collaboration.
