Another Look Inside the Kingdom: A Conversation with Robert Lacey

The Arab-US Policymakers Conference in Washington is a great opportunity to refresh contact with colleagues and friends and make new ones among the hundreds of “specialists” who attend the two day get together every October. We were fortunate at this year’s AUSPC to have bumped into Mr. Robert Lacey, the consummate insider, whose books “Inside the Kingdom” and “The Kingdom” are essential guides to understanding Saudi Arabia. He shared his insights and perspectives in a panel exploring “Gulf Dynamics” at the conference, which SUSRIS will provide to you along with other AUSPC offerings in the coming days. Lacey also took time to talk with SUSRIS about current issues in the Kingdom and his readout of developments affecting Saudi Arabians. He shared his observations on culture and tradition that will be helpful in understanding the character of the Kingdom.
