When SUSRIS was launched ten years ago one of the aims was to present first hand experiences of Americans who have lived and worked in Saudi Arabia to educate their fellow citizens about the relationship, beyond many news reports and TV talking heads which may not have been informed by time spent in the Kingdom. We continue to regularly talk with “expats” about their lives in Saudi Arabia, their work, their friends, and their perspectives on the relationships between Americans and Saudis.

Book | "Anywhere But Saudi Arabia" Excerpts – Kathy Cuddihy

In her latest book, “Anywhere But Saudi Arabia: Experiences of a Once Reluctant Expat,” Kathy Cuddihy describes what it was like to have a 24-year-long front row seat to a country in transition and be a part of the rapidly developing city of Riyadh she first discovered in 1976. Her memoir documents her experiences and how her attitude transformed from initial reluctance and resistance to accept a transfer to Saudi Arabia, to a deep love and respect for its customs and people.
